Media, Defamation and Related Matters

Ed’s experience includes representation of the media and others in defamation and other matters, both in the United States and abroad, and on issues relating to obtaining documents and information from the government under freedom of information laws. Ed’s practice includes litigation and counseling concerning copyright, privacy and related concerns. He has represented individuals and entities in the entertainment and media fields, including authors, publishers, journalists and theater companies, in contract and general matters as well as in litigation. He has, for example, represented the national theater of a European country and the founder of a significant theater company in the U.S. with respect to rights in works developed by the company. In other matters, he represented the then Prime Minister of Greece in connection with libel litigation and filed a brief in the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights urging the Commission to adopt protections similar to those provided under the First Amendment in the United States.
